Is 3D the future?

As Avatar hit the big screen last year, it smashed the worldwide box office as the highest grossing film in the history of cinema, reaching 1.86 billion dollars. With figures like these its clear to see why 3-D is the future for film, but how long will it take for television to follow suit? Electronic companies have already started bringing out 3D televisions and now advertisers are jumping on the bandwagon. On the 21st of May 2010, Clark Kermond explained in the Sydney Morning Harold how even advertisers are beginning to move with the times and into the new dimension. Jetstar had the first 3D commercial aired on Australian television during the Australia vs. New Zealand soccer match which aired on Fox Sports. Apparently sports is the focus for most networks heading in this direction with Fox Sports, Channel Nine and SBS all announcing 3D sports broadcasting in the near future. So what does this mean for future sport? It will bring the game into the living room and give audience a feel that they are experiencing it live without even having to leave their couch.
